I can’t remember where I learned this, but to protect pressed powders from
breaking, stick a flat cotton round or cotton ball in between the powder
and lid. I use this in my every day makeup that I carry back and forth to
work and I’ve never had it break, and its gotten some abuse. I use a
maybelline eyebrow pencil, it has a waxy consistancy and a spoolie on the
other end. It looks like you can’t sharpen it, but you can fairly easily
with any pencil sharpener. As for brushes, one of my favorites is a tiny
angled eyeliner brush from elf, it came with their gel eyeliner. I travel
with a tiny clinique quad which contains a white & brown, good for
highlighting and sculpting my face occasionally.

I was surprised to find that the Vaseline’s red tint comes from red 40 dye.
