Question by Marceda: How to get housing for 54 year old single woman with only a week income from temp service?
Have exhausted unemployment benefits, and the only work I’m getting is 4 hours a week at a temp service, even tho I keep asking for more. Lost my apartment and transportation when unemployment benefits ran out, so I have been homeless or staying in emergency shelter for 2 months. How can I get help for housing with no income?

Have you applied for government housing? The waiting list can be very long in some areas (many years), but you’ll never get on the list if you don’t apply. Until then, the only thing that you can do is keep staying at shelters (or a family member or friend’s home) until you can get back on your feet. Keep looking for work 40+ hours each week. If you don’t have a college education, you might consider starting classes at a local community college. You may qualify for financial aid that would allow you to take classes for free and may receive money for living expenses (just depends on what you qualify for). Community Colleges are typically inexpensive and could give you a chance at a fresh start and allow you to network with new people and even complete some internships (getting you back in the job market). If you belong to a church, make sure that you speak to someone about your situation as they might have assistance available for members. Good luck to you.
