will the oxygen absorbers deter that hatching and survival of any bug eggs or larvae that are in your drygoods ie rice flour oats

WTSHTF, water is the most important next to Meds.
You can live for weeks without food; only a couple of days without water!
If you're dependent on Meds…………………Really good luck!
If it goes past 2 weeks, God help anyone unless you've made a self reliant compound , in the middle of nowhere, and no bad guys overtake you.
    Good luck

If you are willing to re-seal grocery store versions of instant foods in gallon size or half-gallon size Mylar bags + oxygen absorbers, you can indeed make your own long-lasting version of emergency food buckets at a fraction of the cost. Things to re-package: Tang drink mix (100% of day's worth of Vitamin C per serving), powdered protein beverages, powdered Gatorade, non-fat dry milk (for calcium and protein), sweetened instant oatmeal packets (make a small cut in each packet before sealing a group of packets in Mylar), flavored packets of instant grits, freeze-dried coffee, tea bags (regular or herbal), Nestle Quick chocolate and strawberry flavored drink mixes (to make powdered milk taste better), instant re-fried beans, individually wrapped hard candies (peppermints are a good choice), flavored creamer powers (for the coffee or tea), and flavored packets of instant mashed potatoes (make a small cut in each packet). You can also buy some #10 cans of freeze-dried mixed veggies or your favorite one item vegetable, divide into smaller portions and re-package in Mylar. Ditto for freeze-dried beef, chicken or sausage crumbles. Those little containers of butter flavored and cheese flavored powers for popcorn also improve the flavor of instant grits or instant mashed potatoes. I would also add a package or two of those high-calorie emergency food ration bars for times when you can't stop to heat water to re-hydrate the instant foods.

    drinking water gets old?

  8. Robert SmithJune 17, 2017 at 12:27 am

I really appreciate the video, and good info on the thickness of Mylar bags – I have been watching news in Venezuela off and on over the last few months – really sad what they got them selves into… And such a beautiful place on the planet for SERIOUS Agra-culture location (near the equator) – No reason at all, why people should be hungry there.

I'm fortunate, I own my place and have one acre of land – This coming spring, I'll be gardening for sure! – I'm turning back yard into a SERIOUS vegetable garden. I'm planning on growing at least 4x times as much food as I need, Any extra I plan to sell (Farmers markets), or dehydrate for long term storage. – I'm saving up for solar panels, large rolls of clear plastic for Rain Catching/Gardening usage, and a large water filtration system. Water will be the Number #1 biggest issue right before food. Also a Coleman 2 burner camping stove and gallons of cooking fuel (1 gallon cans of Liquified Propane).

I'd like to recommend lots of Vitamin C vitamins in each of your buckets, this can really make up for a lack of citrus fruits we all need for good health, and will be very hard to come by during a SHTF situation. and perhaps a seed storage.

Neighbors? Did you say neighbors? If you haven't moved from the cities & burbs by now, you aren't taking prepping seriously. Yes I spend a bit more on gas, but that's part of my prep, fresh water is free and always running, 3 neighbors…all into prepping. Rule of thumb, if you can't walk out in your back yard and shoot a firearm without the law being called you should move now.
