In 1997 Prime Minister Tony Blair promised the nation that there would be no forgotten people in the Britain he would build.
Old is an investigative documentary from Kate Blewett and Brian Woods (Eyes of a Child, Slavery and The Dying Rooms) that shows that being old and forgotten are tragic, undeniable realities for many people in Blair’s Britain. Through a handful of characters we are given an insight into a grim future that could await any one of us.

Hearing about how Edie and her husband were mistreated by there son in law makes me ILL. Even if their daughter loved her husband how could she let something like that happen to her parents. Well everyone says you won’t know until you have an abusive spouse, but I don’t understand how can someone stay with some hurting 1: you 2: your children 3: your family members.

37:6: “While one man groans in misery
in the habitations of poverty, or there remains one grey head bowed
with distress to dumbly plead for aid, how can you go your way
unmoved by compassion, dissipating your time and substance in
unprofitable enjoyments? You who indulge in vain pleasures
unfeelingly, while others want and suffer, will some day eat your own
heart out in the dark barrenness within the gloomy cave, haunted by
bitterness and regret”. – The Kolbrin Manuscripts (Egyptian Texts
of the Bronzebook – Chapter 37: The Nature of a Man's Soul:
    Compassion)

A society can judge itself on how it treats its children, its animals, those who may be vulnerable and also the elderly. The right of passage must ensue. These are the vulnerables of society and must be cared for as they have much to say if nothing else about human nature and the lessons they have learned. We must respect our elderly. It is so heartbreaking X
