In Sweden, a law is being proposed that would give men the right to “legally abort” a child. By doing this they renounce all parental rights and duties. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

“It’s not just up to women to decide whether to have a baby or not, says the youth wing of Sweden’s Liberal Party. It has proposed granting expectant fathers the right to “legally abort” their unborn child up until the 18th week of pregnancy.

“Men should have an equal right to opt out of parenting and choose whether or not to become a parent,” Marcus Nilsen, chairman of the party’s youth wing West (LUF) told the Swedish Aftonbladet newspaper.

This means that men are proposed to have the right to disclaim paternity until the 18th week of pregnancy, as long as it’s possible for a woman to undergo the abortion procedure.

The suggested “legal abortion,” if chosen, would be irreversible and require the father in question to renounce all parental rights and duties, including the right to see his child once it has been born, should the mother decide to keep it.”

There seems to be a loophole in the bill. If the pregnancy is kept secret from the father during the initial 18 weeks, the mother can still bind a man financially without consent. Also unless the man is entitled to a genetic test it won't help against paternity fraud.
Then again, who cares? This bill has a snowball's chance in hell of passing.

I'm 16 and I will never ever have sex with a woman. I don't trust condoms, they can also fail. I never want to have kids so my responsibility to that is not consent to sex. If you don't want kids, don't have sex. Sex=babies. It's not worth the risk to be paying child support for 18 years. Either wear condoms (Which I don't trust at all because they can fail) or not have sex at all. YOUR CHOICE!!!

CENK — "Either way, its fair to ask each party to own up to their decision." LMAO. That is getting very close to the PRINCIPLE we libertarians espouse, ie: You own Yourself 100%, You Are Free 100%, and so you MUST take full responsibility for your Actions (freely entered into of course) 100%. So Cenk, if you are an adult, and CHOOSE to have sex, the consequences are 100% yours. Abortion for you? 100% NO. …………. [ ("Um what if the woman was jogging in the park and got rapped?" In that case, yes she can have an abortion. "Um what if she got really really wasted drunk with her boy friend one night and she got pregnant?" No abortion, welcome to parenthood. "Why?" Because she is 100% responsible for her actions (getting drunk and then having sex). " Um what if she got seriously wasted drunk at the club and just went home with some hot guy or something?" No abortion-welcome to parenthood. "Um what if she was like just 15 and really had the hots for her math teacher?" In that case, yes she can have an abortion, and the math teacher is guilty of pedophilia. "Um what if it was a 14 year old boy and he had sex with his super hot gym teacher and she got pregnant?" She is guilty of pedophilia and NO she cannot have abortion because she was an adult at the time of sex. "Um what if you are a dude in an orgy of twenty people and a month later some chick calls you up and says you got her pregnant and DNA says its yours?" Welcome to parenthood. "Um what if a young dude say 16 had sex with his 14 year old sister?" She could have an abortion and they are both guilty of incest and the boy might be guilty of rape.)]

I can agree and disagree with this law. I agree because it's actually giving people equality. But on the other hand giving birth is a painful process. In my opinion I don't really think it should be decided by the person who doesn't have to go through with this process. But that's just my option on the matter. If a situation like this comes up in your life both the women and the man should both decide an even solution. I'm sorry if I offended anyone by saying this. I'm glad they are giving equal rights to men tho. :)

The only issue left now is when a man thinks they have a right to be a father just because he had consensual vaginal/penis sex with a fertile woman.

Who should help support the child financially; the father or the tax payers? I say the father, no question. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of sympathy for men that end up in this situation through no fault of their own (condoms failing), and I hope the day will come when men can be on the pill as well. However, I do wonder how high the percentage is of unwanted pregnancy after condom fail really is.

this is all dumdum talk!!!! the day I see you all produce men carrying pregnancy, you can come tell us the men can opt out!!! stupid dumdums should think of not getting as woman pregnant in the first place than have the easy way out!!!!! do you not hear the ravages of abortion to women, physically, psychological and emotionally !!!! what does the man has to go through in comparison? the child ultimately will choose to find their dad if they so wish, but what mother wants to see their child rejected again and again in their life? men should think more clearly first if they want children before they can sleep with a woman, and then if they want to, let them choose have a vasectomy or as you call it male abortion! now that would make sense!!!!

why don't you do a story on Sweden' s rape problem??

  11. Tom SmithMarch 23, 2017 at 2:13 pm

I completely agree with this because it would totally cut down on those crazy "keep a baby daddy" women.

Opting out as a male would be more psychologically damning if the child is born.

  13. njintauMarch 23, 2017 at 2:27 pm

How much do you want to bet cuntservatives here would be all for male abortion?

  14. officechair generalMarch 23, 2017 at 2:53 pm

The mans opt out period should be shorter, assuming he is informed and should be able to opt out if the pregnancy is hidden from him.

This was not the official liberal party, it was the liberal youth party. Big difference, the youth party does not have any official political power to propose legislation.

    About money
Make it known that the state will not pay to support the child. Your choice, your responsibility in all ways…

Abortion is killing, therefore deserves the death penalty
